At Admire Dental Southgate, we understand the importance of a person’s smile. That is why we are proud to provide patients with tooth restorations that look and feel completely natural. When you visit us for a dental crown or bridgework, you can be confident knowing that you will leave with natural-looking teeth and a beautiful smile.
Porcelain Crowns
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped structures that are placed at the site of lost or damaged teeth to restore their appearance and function. Porcelain is one of the finest materials for use in dental crowns because of its natural look and great functionality. Some of the reasons people receive dental crowns include:
- Protecting weakened or damaged teeth
- Part of root canal therapy
- Improving the function of teeth
- Complete smile makeovers
- Adjusting teeth that are misshapen
Since porcelain dental crowns require special construction in a dental laboratory, patients will need to make two visits to our office to receive this type of crown. The first visit consists of taking impressions so the custom crown can be built, and the second visit involves the actual installation of the permanent dental crown.
The process starts by shaving off a portion of the designated tooth so the new dental crown will be able to fit properly. Next, impressions of the patient’s teeth are taken, allowing the custom crown to be constructed. The patient will be fitted with a temporary restoration, which is designed to last until their permanent crown is ready. When the patient returns for their second visit, the custom dental crown will be permanently affixed to the tooth using a dental adhesive. Once the crown is installed, the patient will be provided with instructions on how to care for their restoration.
Porcelain Bridges
Also known as partial dentures, dental bridges are an option for patients missing multiple teeth. A dental bridge consists of natural-looking prosthetic teeth that are supported by the adjacent teeth that still remain in the mouth. Dental bridges can either be removable or permanently fixed within the mouth. We use porcelain in all of our dental bridges because of the material’s natural look and outstanding performance.
Fixed bridges use one of two methods to remain permanently attached inside the mouth. They are either directly bonded to the adjacent supporting teeth, or they are essentially a series of dental crowns applied on top of supporting structures. Removable bridges are kept securely in place using metal clasps or precision attachments, and they can be easily taken out by the user for cleaning.
